Grenada Citizenship as an Alternative to Residence Permit in the European Union

Grenada Citizenship as an Alternative to Residence Permit in the European Union

In May 2021, Sergey V., a businessman from Saint Petersburg, a caring husband, and father of five, reached out to us. The family planned to relocate to another country and needed professional assistance. Sergey was interested in reducing the tax burden on his business and intended to expand his ventures in the United States. His wife dreamed of a warm climate, as well as access to high-quality healthcare and education for their children.

An EU residence permit wasn’t considered since the applicant faced some difficulties obtaining documents to confirm the origin of his income. As an alternative to European residency, we suggested the Grenadian investment passport program, which would allow the family to obtain Grenada's Golden Passport. This option met the needs of all family members, offering minimal business taxes and well-developed infrastructure for a comfortable life and leisure.

Around ten families from Russia reside in Grenada, where there are kindergartens, schools, and even a university, which was particularly important to Sergey’s wife. Additionally, the children would benefit from educational discounts at UK universities.

Another advantage that interested the client was the opportunity to apply for the U.S. E-2 business visa, which Grenadian citizens are eligible for.

Working on the Case

In June, we sent the collaboration documents to the client via courier for signing and began collecting the necessary documents.

We completed the case preparation within three weeks, including:

  • Russian and international passports of the applicant and spouse,
  • marriage certificate,
  • birth certificates of all family members,
  • certificates of no criminal record for each spouse,
  • medical certificates,
  • HIV tests for all applicants over 12,
  • proof of income (we assisted the client in addressing the missing documents),
  • company registration certificate,
  • fingerprints (collected via Skype with a Grenadian notary).

The documents were translated and notarized.

At the same time, we signed the contract for purchasing a share in the Kawana Bay hotel complex and the stock reservation agreement (the original document was sent to the client by courier).

Note: The Kawana Bay investment project, with a 3% yield, is designed for a five-year period. The opening of the project was planned for late 2021 or early 2022.

At the end of June, our local agent in Grenada, Margaret Wilkinson (licensed company "Infinity (Grenada) Incorporation"), submitted the petition prepared by our lawyer for government due diligence.

The client paid for the due diligence check and associated costs (application fee, processing fee, and legal fees for document preparation).

The wait for the government check results lasted just over a month.

In July, the results of the due diligence came through, and the applicant was approved to participate in the citizenship program.

Sergey transferred the remaining 90% of the share amount as per the reservation agreement.

After receiving their certificates of naturalization, the clients took the Grenadian oath online.

In August, we personally handed over the passports to Sergey’s family, who received Grenadian citizenship.

The family has not yet relocated to Grenada. The couple is in the process of selling property in Russia, and their eldest son is completing his final year of school.

Summary

The case was completed in just under three months. When choosing the country, we considered the wishes of all family members and the applicant’s initial capabilities. Sergey plans to expand his business to the U.S. at a later stage. For now, the priority is relocating and settling the family in their new home.
