Many clients ask what privileges a second citizenship offers. Let us explain! A second passport allows you to tackle multiple goals simultaneously: establish a "backup location" for temporary or permanent residence, change your tax residency, access advanced healthcare systems, and receive high-quality education.
Today, we want to introduce you to a new case of obtaining citizenship where the new passport helped the owner meet several needs at once – relocating children abroad, expanding a business, optimizing taxation, and providing quality education for a child at a significant discount. Want to know how we did it? Read more about our new case.
Client Story
Muhammad first contacted our agency at the end of 2023. His primary goal was to choose a citizenship program that would allow him to obtain new passports for himself, his children, and his mother. He was interested in all possible programs – entry costs, conditions, and privileges. After the initial inquiry, he returned two months later, determined to participate in Grenada’s investment program.
“We had a wonderful 20-year marriage, during which we grew our family business after moving to Russia. We traveled frequently and planned to eventually relocate to Europe. Unfortunately, my wife passed away due to illness two years ago. Thanks to my mother for helping me raise our two children. At the time, my son Ali was 16, and my daughter Chehra was 13. We are originally from Pakistan but left over ten years ago.”
For two years, Muhammad did not consider changing countries, but in 2023, his son was about to graduate from high school and wanted to study cardiothoracic surgery, with aspirations of practicing in Europe or the US. Finding a good foreign university became a top priority for the family. Graduates of foreign universities can work globally, take additional courses, and advance their qualifications under more favorable conditions. At the same time, Muhammad was looking to expand his business, find new markets, and optimize the company's taxation.
Before deciding on Grenada, Muhammad compared education costs at universities in Germany, the UK, and the US. The tuition fees in those countries were quite high. Additionally, only his son, Ali, would be able to relocate and obtain a residence permit by enrolling in such a university. Muhammad’s dream was to move the whole family abroad, a goal he and his late wife had often dreamed about.
The chosen university in Grenada impressed with its tuition rates and other significant advantages:
Many local universities offer grants, discounts, and scholarships to students from third countries, but these opportunities are limited and highly competitive. Even with high admission scores, there is no guarantee a student will receive financial aid.
Muhammad discovered that students in medicine and veterinary programs at St. George’s University in Grenada are eligible for the Grenada Partnership Award, which offers a 90% tuition discount!
To apply for tuition reimbursement, students must meet two requirements:
Students can live in Grenada for a year, complete their first year of study, and apply for tuition reimbursement at the beginning of their second year.
If a foreign national obtains Grenadian citizenship before enrolling in a university, they can also apply for the Caribbean Undergraduate Scholarship Program, which offers a yearly scholarship covering up to 65% of tuition for Caribbean citizens.
In addition to educational advantages, Grenadian passports offer Muhammad and his family the following benefits:
These benefits were more than enough for the entire family to actively prepare to obtain Grenadian citizenship and plan for future migration.
Before signing a collaboration agreement, we require a preliminary screening of the investor and their family. We conduct this screening ourselves, using international databases. Why is this necessary if the applicant will later undergo official Due Diligence? The host country’s background check is paid, and the fee is non-refundable regardless of the result.
Our internal screening helps identify any risks of denial. If such risks are detected, we adjust the strategy accordingly, possibly selecting a different citizenship or residency program.
In Muhammad's case, the screening went almost perfectly. He had no visa denials or legal issues in his home or host countries, and his financial history was clean with timely fulfillment of all tax obligations. After the screening, we signed a cooperation agreement.
Muhammad decided to obtain citizenship not only for himself and his children but also for his mother. He also tried to persuade his mother-in-law to join them, but she ultimately decided to stay behind and visit the grandchildren occasionally. However, his late wife’s mother found an old friend living in Grenada for over 20 years, and our clients will rent a spacious house from her in St. George’s for the time being. Muhammad will later decide whether to buy permanent housing on the island or choose another more suitable location for their permanent residence.
The lawyers of GARANT.in analyzed the client’s situation and prepared a list of necessary documents relevant to his case. This list was based on the results of the screening and the conditions of Grenada’s citizenship program. Muhammad’s case differed from the standard application because he is a widower and wanted to include not only his children but also his mother in the application. He needed to prove that both his children and mother were financially dependent on him.
The main documents submitted for citizenship by investment included:
Our specialists helped gather the necessary documents, complete the required government forms, and ensure proper notarization. After completing the affidavits, the documents were submitted to Grenada’s citizenship program department.
Due Diligence Process
Once the Grenadian citizenship program department receives the applicant’s documents, it begins the Due Diligence process, which takes 3 to 6 months.
In Muhammad’s case, approval came after 3.5 months with no additional questions or document requests.
Investment Contribution and Passport Issuance
Muhammad had 30 days to complete the payment, but we helped him transfer the funds in just three days. He chose the non-refundable donation option to the country’s state fund. For a family of four, this amounted to $200,000. Our clients were fortunate to secure this investment before an announced increase in the minimum contribution, saving an additional $50,000.
The passports were issued four weeks after the payment, and by mid-August, our clients had received their naturalization certificates and Grenadian passports. The entire process took approximately 5.5 months.
Client’s Current Situation
After receiving the documents, Muhammad moved his family to Grenada before returning home to handle business matters. His son, Ali, is already attending university and enjoys his studies. His daughter, Chehra, is finishing her senior year in a local school while taking English tutoring in preparation for applying to medical school in the US next year.
Muhammad visited Grenada in September and is now working remotely with us to register his business, open bank accounts, and complete the necessary forms and documents. The family is very pleased with their decision and migration. They may eventually move to the US, as Grenadian citizens have access to a 10-year American visa, giving them flexibility in finding work.
