The resident visa lets you live in New Zealand indefinitely, work and study — for you, your partner and children aged 24 and under.
Since 1 April 2025 the English language section for the principal applicant has been revoked. What counts is capital and its origin, not an IELTS score.
Growth requires 21 days in New Zealand over 3 years, Balanced 105 days over 5 years. You keep your life and business in India, the UAE or elsewhere.
Growth means a smaller amount and shorter term, but higher-risk illiquid assets. Balanced means more money for longer, with a wider choice: equities, bonds, property development.
New New Zealand tax residents may qualify for a 4-year temporary exemption on most types of foreign income (under Inland Revenue rules).
After the investment period — a Permanent Resident Visa with no travel limits. Citizenship after 5 years living in the country as a resident.

We gather source-of-funds evidence, medicals, police certificates, family documents and the cover letter, and file the application online.
A business immigration specialist assesses the application. 80% of applications are approved in principle within 11 weeks — INZ statistics, not a statutory timeline. You may switch category once: while the application is being assessed or in the first 6 months after approval in principle.
After approval in principle you have 6 months to transfer and invest, with up to 6 more on request. Meanwhile you can get a 12-month multiple-entry work visa, your partner a visitor visa and your children student visas.
Once investments and contact details are confirmed, INZ grants resident visas subject to section 49 conditions. Family members must travel to New Zealand within 12 months of the visa being granted.
You hold the investments, spend the required days in New Zealand and submit reports at months 24 and 36 or 60. Then we lift the conditions and apply for the Permanent Resident Visa.
The official conditions are set out above. Below is how we approach the programme in practice.
We define whether the family has qualifying investment capital, an outstanding professional profile or both, and choose the country and programme around that, not the other way round.
INZ warns that the scheme does not cover every investment. A fund or company not accepted by Invest New Zealand does not count under Growth, and an asset that fails one category does not automatically qualify under the other.
Venture funds and direct stakes are hard to sell, and the commitment often runs beyond the programme's three years. Build that into the family's plan before investing, not after.
A fast approval in one case is no basis for promising the same timeline to another family. We work from INZ statistics and the completeness of the file.
New Zealand and Australia demand different strategies. New Zealand's Active Investor Plus provides the Growth category from NZ$5 million invested for three years and Balanced from NZ$10 million for five. The eligible assets, presence requirements and conditions for keeping the status must be verified before committing.
We start by defining what the applicant actually has: qualifying investment capital, an outstanding professional profile, or both. A fast approval in one case is no basis for promising the same timeline to another family — and both countries expect real engagement, not a passive purchase of status.

A programme for families with substantial capital who are ready to keep it in the New Zealand economy for several years.
Ready to put NZD 5 million into direct investments or venture funds accepted by Invest New Zealand and, if you wish, to help those companies grow.
Prefer a more conservative mix: the Balanced category allows listed equities, bonds and property development, but requires NZD 10 million for 5 years.
Your partner and children aged 24 and under receive the same resident visa: school, university and work in New Zealand.
No English test for the principal applicant since 1 April 2025, and as little as 21 days in New Zealand over the investment period — your business in India or the UAE keeps running.

Request a quoteFor Garant IN, family comes first. Your partner and children aged 24 and under are included in one Active Investor Plus application and receive the same resident visa. Below are Immigration New Zealand's conditions as of October 2026.
Marriage or a de facto relationship: you must show the relationship is genuine and stable and that you have lived together for at least 12 months. Your partner receives the same resident visa with the right to live, work and study. While you transfer funds after approval in principle, your partner can come on a visitor visa.
Children aged 24 and under are included: up to 17 with no extra conditions, 18 to 24 with no children of their own, 21 to 24 if financially dependent on you, and all of them single. A child born after you apply can be added through a Dependent Child Resident Visa after approval in principle.
Parents are not included in an Active Investor Plus application. There is a separate Parent Boost Visitor Visa: multiple entry for up to 5 years, fee from NZD 3,100, no pathway to residence. The sponsor is an adult child who is a New Zealand resident and who must spend at least 184 days a year in New Zealand — an important point for an investor with a 21-day presence requirement.
The investment threshold does not rise with family size: NZD 5 million in Growth or NZD 10 million in Balanced covers the whole application. Everyone needs a medical examination, and everyone aged 17 or older a police certificate. Family members must travel to New Zealand within 12 months of the visa being granted or reapply for residence.
The family applies together with the principal applicant; children born later are added through a separate visa. Garant IN's migration programme experts check each family member's documents against INZ criteria in advance, so that no individual application is refused. Data verified on 9 October 2026 against immigration.govt.nz.
The Active Investor Plus rules are public. The difference lies in choosing the category and assets that fit your family's capital, and in proving the source of funds so the case does not stall before approval in principle.
We compare Growth and Balanced on amount, term, liquidity and time in the country, and check whether adding capital in Balanced to cut the days requirement makes sense.
The scheme does not cover every investment. We check that the fund or company is accepted by Invest New Zealand and will remain acceptable for the whole period.
We prepare the cover letter INZ expects: a table of sources, a document index, how the wealth was built and how the funds will be transferred.
Moving NZD 5–10 million out of India runs through the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) per family member, and we plan it alongside the 6-month transfer window rather than asking INZ for an extension.
We track your days in New Zealand, the reports at months 24 and 36 or 60 and the investor questionnaires, then handle lifting conditions and permanent residence.
Wording pending approval.
Active Investor Plus is New Zealand’s resident visa for people ready to commit substantial capital to the country’s economy for several years. From 1 April 2025 the rules were rewritten: instead of a weighted investment system there are two clear categories — Growth from NZD 5 million for 3 years and Balanced from NZD 10 million for 5 years — and the English requirement for the principal applicant was revoked.
The government states the aim plainly: to attract foreign capital and experienced, active investors into sectors that matter to the economy. That is why Growth is geared towards venture funds and direct investment in New Zealand companies accepted by Invest New Zealand, while Balanced lets you build a more conservative portfolio of equities, bonds and property development.
The programme suits founders and families — including Indian business owners and UAE-based investors — with capital from NZD 5 million who want a resident visa for the whole family without language tests or an obligation to live in New Zealand full time. It does not suit those who want to put the money into their own home or get the capital back quickly: a personal residence does not count, and the funds must stay in the country for the whole investment period.
After the investment period the principal applicant sends a cover letter, passports for everyone in the application, evidence that the conditions were met (for example, a letter from an independent accountant or solicitor) and proof of residence address. There is no charge.
Once conditions are lifted — a Permanent Resident Visa for you and the family in the original application: travel in and out of New Zealand indefinitely, as long as the visa is in a valid passport.
You need 5 years living in New Zealand as a resident, at least 240 days in each 12-month period and 1,350 days over 5 years, with visa conditions met or cancelled. A Permanent Resident Visa is not required first. India does not allow dual citizenship, so this step means giving up the Indian passport.
You become a New Zealand tax resident after 183 days in the country in any 12-month period or if you have a permanent place of abode. New residents may qualify for a 4-year temporary exemption on most foreign income — we check the conditions in advance.

International migration consultancy since 2015.
Two levels of quality control: Garant IN's migration consulting and case management department runs a rigorous pre-application compliance screening (Pre-Due Diligence) and prepares the document package to 2026 requirements, while the application in New Zealand is prepared and filed together with New Zealand licensed immigration advisers (IAA) and lawyers. This is how we minimise the risk of refusal at the preparation stage, before the documents reach the government authority.
Not as the principal applicant. Section BN5 on English language requirements for Active Investor Plus was revoked on 1 April 2025. Documents in other languages are filed with English translations.
Growth means a smaller amount and term (NZD 5 million for 3 years, 21 days in the country), but only funds and companies accepted by Invest New Zealand, usually illiquid. Balanced means NZD 10 million for 5 years and 105 days in the country, but you can hold equities, bonds and property development. The choice depends on the risk and horizon your family is comfortable with.
No. Your own home is personal use and is not an acceptable investment. The Balanced category allows residential property development, but only new projects of more than one dwelling, run for commercial return, and neither you nor your relatives may live there.
Across the whole investment period: 21 days for Growth and 105 days for Balanced. In Balanced the requirement drops by 14 days for each extra NZD 1 million in Growth assets (excluding philanthropy), by up to 42 days — down to 63 days at NZD 13 million. The extra funds must be nominated before approval in principle.
It is the decision that you meet the requirements. After it you have 6 months to transfer and invest the funds, and up to 6 more on request if you show reasonable attempts. Meanwhile you can get a 12-month multiple-entry work visa. The resident visa is granted once the investment is evidenced.
INZ requires the transfer through the banking system — from your own account, a joint account with family members in the application, or via a solicitor, pension scheme or investment account in your name. From India, outward remittances run under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS), which sets an annual limit per person, so for NZD 5–10 million we plan the remittance per family member well before the 6-month window opens.
Yes, if they are acceptable under the programme rules: the investment period can then start from the date your application is approved. Gifted funds that are, or ever were, in New Zealand cannot be included in your nominated funds.
The application fee starts at NZD 27,470; the exact amount depends on the country you apply from. Per Immigration New Zealand statistics, 80% of applications are approved in principle within 11 weeks. This is not a statutory timeline, and we will not promise a specific date.
If at the end of the investment period the conditions are not met — investments not maintained, too few days in the country or reports not filed — you may have to leave New Zealand. That is why we keep a calendar of conditions with you for the whole period.
Yes, once: from Balanced to Growth or the other way round, while the application is being assessed or in the first 6 months after approval in principle.
The Permanent Resident Visa after 36 months in Growth or 60 months in Balanced and lifting the conditions. Citizenship after 5 years living in New Zealand as a resident: at least 240 days in each year and 1,350 days over 5 years. With a 21-day programme requirement, citizenship means actually moving to New Zealand.
Children, yes — up to and including age 24: from 18 they must have no children of their own, from 21 they must be financially dependent on you, and all must be single. Parents cannot be included: they have the Parent Boost Visitor Visa for up to 5 years, with its own income or funds requirements and a sponsor who lives in New Zealand at least 184 days a year.
It does not. The threshold — NZD 5 million in Growth or NZD 10 million in Balanced — is set for the principal applicant and covers the whole family in the application. Family members provide evidence of the relationship and of the children's dependence, medicals and police certificates from age 17.
Yes. If the application is refused through the fault of our team or an error in building the case, we refund the company's service fee less a minimal retention for costs actually incurred. Refund terms, the payment schedule and the rules on retaining service costs are fixed in the contract before work begins.
