Conditions to obtain and keep

Cyprus citizenship is typically obtained through naturalization after holding permanent residency, usually following a long period of residence in the country—generally at least 7 years. Applicants must demonstrate integration, language proficiency, and a clean criminal record. There is no automatic transition from permanent residency to citizenship—a separate procedure is required.
