Argentina announces citizenship by investment: USD 350,000 contribution or a USD 800,000 bond
Argentina's Ministry of Economy announced citizenship by investment on 2 Oct 2026: USD 350,000 non-refundable or USD 800,000 bond, family included. What is confirmed.

On 2 October 2026 the Argentine government officially announced the launch of a Citizenship by Investment programme: Economy Minister Luis Caputo and Chief of Cabinet Diego Santilli presented it at Argentina Week in Paris, and the press release is published on the Ministry of Economy website. According to the release, applications should open during Q4 2026. As of 5 October no regulation with the terms has been published.
What is known officially
Option 1 — USD 350,000. A non-refundable contribution to the Argentine National Treasury (Tesoro Nacional).
Option 2 — USD 800,000. An investment in a government bond created specifically for this programme. Argentine and international media (Bloomberg Línea, La Tercera, El Cronista) report that the bond will carry no interest and have a 7-year holding period. The release itself contains none of these terms: the final parameters still have to be fixed in the programme documents.
Family. Spouse: an additional USD 100,000. Children aged 18 to 25 who are unmarried and have no children of their own: USD 100,000 each. Children under 18: USD 25,000 each. Example from the release: a family of two adults and two minor children under the contribution option — USD 500,000.
Real estate. The announcement names only two mechanisms. Property purchase has not been announced as a separate investment option.
Do you have to live in Argentina?
Citizenship Law 346 as amended in 2025 (art. 2 para. 2) allows an investor to be naturalised regardless of the length of residence in the country. In other words, this is direct citizenship through investment rather than the classic residence permit, residence, citizenship route. The 2 October announcement itself does not spell this condition out.
An important caveat: the provision was introduced by emergency decree DNU 366/2025, which the National Electoral Chamber declared invalid in a specific case on 30 June 2026. The decree continues to be applied and the government is appealing to the Supreme Court. There is no ruling yet, and bills to repeal the regime have been tabled in Congress. Until the court rules, “citizenship without residence” is a provision of the law, not a guarantee of the programme.
How long will citizenship take?
The overall timeline has not been announced. After vetting, the special Agency under the Ministry of Economy sends its conclusion to the National Directorate of Migration (DNM). Under Decreto 524/2025 the DNM must decide within 30 working days of receiving the conclusion, but the vetting stage itself has no statutory time limit.
Vetting will be serious: source of funds, financial standing, criminal record, reputation, migration history and risks linked to the country of origin. SIDE, UIF, the Ministry of Security and the Ministry of the Interior take part. Funds are accepted only through the formal financial system.
What we are waiting for
- the exact start date for applications and the filing procedure;
- the final terms of the government bond and confirmation of its holding period;
- the full document list and the detailed due diligence procedure;
- nationality restrictions, fees and the programme operator;
- the Supreme Court’s position on DNU 366/2025.
The programme has been officially announced, but its final regulations are still being drafted. Garant IN takes no prepayments before applications open: we are building a waitlist and pre-screening candidates so that files can be submitted in the first days of the programme.
Update, 12 October 2026
As of 12 October the regulation setting the programme terms has not been published. On 24 September the electoral chamber allowed the government’s appeal, and the case on DNU 366/2025 is before the Supreme Court (according to Infobae). Two bills to repeal the regime have been tabled in Congress. Tax note: under Law 27.802 (art. 194), citizenship by investment does not by itself make you an Argentine tax resident. Programme terms and the waitlist: Argentina citizenship by investment.
