Italian Residence Permit - Which Option to Choose and What to Remember?
September 29, 2023
Residence Permit in Italy (Permesso di soggiorno) is a resident status that allows an individual to legally stay in the country for up to 5 years. Obtaining a residence permit in Italy is necessary for anyone planning to stay in Italy for more than 90 days, even if it's for long-term medical treatment.
Requirements for an Italian Residence Permit Applicant
To be eligible for any type of residence permit, the applicant must:
- Be over 18 years old.
- Have no issues with the current legislation in their own country or any other.
- Enter Italy through legal means.
- Not have physical/mental illnesses that could pose a threat to society.
- Hold a D visa.
Important! The D visa can be obtained in the applicant's own country or any other country by contacting the Italian consulate or visa center. It is necessary to obtain a visa under the direction for which the applicant plans to subsequently obtain a residence permit. For example, with an entrepreneur visa, it is not possible to later obtain a student residence permit. After obtaining a D visa, it is necessary to apply for a residence permit in Italy.
Main Documents Required for Applying for an Italian Residence Permit
To prepare a document package for an Italian residence permit, you need to start with the basic list:
