In December 2020, Victor R. approached us to extend his permanent residence permit, which was due to expire in 2021.

The Russian citizen was married to a French woman, which was the basis for obtaining permanent residence. For more than 7 years, the spouses lived in Paris. In 2020, Victor returned home with his wife to work with business partners.

Unfortunately, the spouses did not manage to keep the marriage, it was officially dissolved in the Russian Federation in October 2020.

In Paris, Victor still has a flat, which he bought while he was already married. Legally, this property was jointly acquired. But the client's ex-wife did not have any claims on it, as she was going to stay in Russia.

Case work

Renewal of the French residence permit on the basis of the marriage was impossible, as it no longer existed.

We started to collect all the necessary documents to confirm Victor's socialisation in society: language skills, contacts of friends in Paris, utility bills. An important fact was the availability of his own home in the country.

The package of documents was also completed with:

  • tax returns and certificates of tax payment in France (Victor had been a tax resident of the country since 2010);
  • bank statements confirming the legal origin of the client's income;
  • constituent documents and financial statements of his company.

The documents were finalised after we had done the apostille and official translation.

Victor could not leave Russia until all the cases were finalised. The application for the extension of his residence permit with all the documents was submitted to the Migration Service in Paris by our lawyer on the basis of a power of attorney from the client.

In April Victor received approval to extend his permanent residence in France. He applied to the migration authorities in his place of residence to replace his residence card upon his return to the country.
