Andrei approached us to obtain a residence permit for France. As he has long-term business plans connected with this country, he expects to apply for citizenship in the future. At the same time, he plans to obtain a new migration status for his wife and child. Since it is currently difficult for Russian citizens to obtain approval for a residence permit, we have developed a variant with an intermediate stage in the UAE, which we have already implemented for our clients on several occasions.
In this case, the procedure is as follows:
After consulting with our lawyers, Andrei chose to obtain UAE residency by starting a company. We prepared a package of documents for registering a business in one of the UAE's free economic zones, and in less than a week the client received documents confirming that he held a management position there. He then arrived in the UAE and went through the procedures required to obtain a resident card.
As Andrei is fluent in English, he did not need the assistance of an interpreter, but our lawyers in the UAE provided all the necessary support. After Andrei received his residency status, the documents for his family were issued on this basis.
A few more days later Andrei applied for a French D visa. Two weeks later he received a French D visa for himself and his family, on which he flew to this country and applied for a residence permit. In France, we helped him with finding real estate (Andrei chose Lyon to live in), obtaining a local driver's license, and opening an account.
A residence permit in France gives its holder the following opportunities:
At the same time, holders of a French residence permit are not subject to mandatory requirements for language skills and permanent residence in France. This was one of our arguments for our client, as he needs to maintain mobility and the ability to choose his place of residence according to his needs.
The duration of a residence permit depends on its type. For example, a residence permit for investment is usually issued for four years, and when obtained under the scheme for financially independent persons - for one year with subsequent renewal. After staying in this status for five years, the holder of a residence permit can apply for permanent residence in France, and then for citizenship.
It should be borne in mind that at this stage, the requirements for the applicant increase: first, to obtain a French passport will need to confirm the knowledge of the language, and second - to acquire the status of a tax resident of the country. You will not have to renounce your Russian citizenship, as dual citizenship is allowed in France. If necessary, we will provide support at this stage and help you to prepare in advance, so that the requirements of official bodies do not become a surprise.
